Two Cleanups, Two Different Jobs
A fall cleanup is really about protecting the lawn through winter — a thick mat of wet leaves left on turf blocks light and traps moisture, which can smother grass and encourage snow mold by spring. We clear leaves and debris from lawn and beds, cut back perennials that are done for the season, and do a final mow before winter dormancy.
A spring cleanup is about giving the lawn a clean start — clearing whatever winter left behind (branches, matted leaves, winter sand from plowing), cutting back anything that didn’t get done in fall, and getting beds ready for the season’s first plantings and mulch.
What you clean up in November has a lot to do with what your lawn looks like in April.
